Somatic Yoga Movement
“Our world exists because we sense it, interpret it, and build a perception. We sense our body and we sense our environment. From these sensations we build a map of our internal and external world.”
Carolyn McHose
Your body carries the story of your life. Every experience has shaped how you feel, move, breathe and is influencing the baseline state of your nervous system at every moment.
Your nervous system is the lens through which you experience everything. It determines whether you feel safe in your own body, in relationships and in the world.
Somatic sessions create space for you to explore, reclaim, and integrate all parts of yourself through experiential, therapeutic work – guiding you toward embodied wholeness and a felt sense of safety.
The focus is on your inner experience rather than getting the external form "right." There's no perfect end-goal to reach, instead, we cultivate curiosity – exploring what unfolds in your felt sense from moment to moment.
These practices are journeys of self-discovery, inviting you to explore and cultivate a more accepting, kind relationship with yourself through the wisdom of your body.
Your body is always communicating through sensation
Telling you when you need to eat, drink, rest, sleep, but also about your emotional, and relational needs.
In the top down cognitive processing biased world we live in, body communication is not something we’re taught about, or encouraged to explore. For so many of us school taught us to ignore or push away such sensations, thoughts and feelings, so its no surprise to discover that the channels of communication are so quiet.
Some of us discover this somatic communication when the body has been ignored for too long, resulting in LOUD shouting through chronic pain, anxiety, depression, illness, or burnout.
Everything is connected
Body-mind-breath. Gut, heart and pelvis, epicentres of our body and how we experience life. Modern science and medicine see the human body through the lens of separation- its time to change the paradigm - all aspects of our body are interrelated within ourselves and also to the outer natural world.
The invitation
Noticing, sensing and responding to what's happening in your body invites you into a deeper connection with yourself, your needs and leads you to a greater understanding of the world around you.
